Gyaldem Tish Donates Sanitary Pads to Students
Renowned Ghanaian musician Gyaldem Tish has generously donated sanitary pads worth thousands of cedis to female students in Afram Plains, located in the Eastern Region. This initiative, part of her ongoing project, aims to support young women during their menstrual periods.
Over 5,000 female students benefited from this charitable act, which is a monthly endeavor by the internationally acclaimed artist. Speaking with journalists, Gyaldem Tish highlighted the importance of such contributions. “These donations are part of our monthly efforts to support female students during their menstrual periods,” she said.
The musician, known for her numerous hit songs, stressed that menstruation is a natural and normal process that should not be stigmatized. “We cannot educate girls every year to change their pads regularly and wash their hands after changing when there is no decent place in the school for doing that: no privacy, no water, no soap,” she stated.
Gyaldem Tish also advocated for innovative and sustainable solutions to create a period-friendly world for girls. She encouraged the use of reusable materials for menstrual hygiene, provided they are properly washed and dried before reuse. During the event, she demonstrated the use of a reusable menstrual product, produced by some local entrepreneurs and NGOs.
Emphasizing the need for more support, she called for prioritizing menstrual hygiene policies within the government’s Girl Child Education agenda. She urged girls to seek professional help and guidance from their counselors and teachers regarding menstrual hygiene challenges.
Gyaldem Tish’s initiative not only addresses immediate needs but also promotes long-term solutions and education on menstrual hygiene, aiming to empower and support young women across Ghana.
