The Lioness of Africa is on the move again! Ghana’s very own Wiyaala has unveiled her 2025 European tour, hitting the stage with her electrifying band, The Yaga Yagas.
Born and raised in Funsi in Ghana’s Upper West Region, Wiyaala blends Afro-pop, rock, and traditional West African folk with lyrics in Sissala, Waala, and English. But her shows are more than just music—they’re a full-on emotional journey. As she says, her goal is simple: “make them laugh, make them cry, and then make them rock.”
From WOMAD UK and Summerfest New York to the Commonwealth Games in Australia, Wiyaala has built a reputation as one of Africa’s most commanding live performers. “Feisty is not the word – she is a powerhouse in the mode of a young Angelique Kidjo, effervescent and funny, she rocked the crowd and got a great reception,” wrote Nigel Wood in the Irish Times after her WOMAD performance.
Off the stage, Wiyaala’s impact is just as powerful. She is a passionate advocate for children’s rights and education and has founded The Lioness Kingdom in Funsi—a cultural hub that includes the Wiyaala Arts Centre, a community radio station, and a guesthouse. The BBC has praised her music for its “messages of empowerment and resilience.”
